Seattle-based Add3, the search engine marketing firm that’s behind the popular and upcoming Seattle Interactive Conference, is expanding to Portland, Ore., via the acquisition of Portland firm Amplify Interactive.
“We didn’t put together an acquisition and merger team or anything like that,” said Add3 CEO Paul Uhlir. “This opportunity came to us and we just went for it.”
The acquisition, which is effective immediately, will bring Amplify’s founder and President Ben Lloyd and his five-person team under the Add3 brand. The team will remain in Portland, where the company is actively hiring.
Uhlir said that he and Lloyd have been comparing notes on their respective conferences – Lloyd helps organize and run the search marketing group SEMPDX’s Search Fest – and that got them talking about joining forces.
“He got to see us work on some level and we got to see him work on some level,” Uhlir said.
The two companies did not have any competing clients, Uhlir said, and so were able to retain them all after the merger, which is effective immediately. Amplify counts Portland companies Tripwire, Janrain and Navex Global as clients.
The companies are not disclosing the terms of the acquisition.
While Add3 isn’t actively considering any other acquisitions at the moment, Uhlir said if another opportunity arose, the company would consider it. In the meantime, they’re busy hiring new people.
“We’re in growth mode,” he said. “We’re hiring any smart people who want to talk to us.”
