So you want to write a blog post… and you want it to not only be informational but also position it in a way that people that are searching for it find it. Position Your Blog Post The Correct Way

Are you looking for how to create an optimized blog post? Well, the first thing you need to do is perform research as to what search term you want to optimize the post for. I would recommend Google’s free keyword tool to find how people are searching for the subject you’re writing about. After you figure that out by looking at the volume numbers, competition, stemming and related search terms, then you can start creating your blog post.

It’s very important to try to use the search term target in the headline of your post. In this example that would be optimized blog post. Of course, make your blog post title make sense. Also make it pop; a good blog post title can generate click through based on the title alone.

Embrace Sub Headlines

Sub headlines work well when it comes to making your blog post more readable. It also gives you a reason to try to insert a search term variation or a secondary search term in a place where search engines place a little bit of weight into as well as attracting the reader’s eye.

Also bullets and lists are easy ways to get content in front of readers in a way they can easily scan and digest. Why it’s easy for readers to look at bullet points:

  • Breaks up content to make it more readable
  • Makes the content easily “scannable”
  • Prohibits any excuses of “tl;dr”

Also remember that you should always use image alt tag text for any images that are appearing in your post. The image alt tag text should also contain the search term target that you have for the page. For example, for the image I’ve included in this blog post, I might use, “Learn the anatomy of an optimized blog post according to Amplify Interactive.”

Bolding & Italics Help for Readers and Search Engines

Making words bold and italicized in your blog post helps visitors see what content they should really look for. Search engine spiders also see these as cues for words you feel are important in your blog post.

A Tidy End

End your blog post with a strong call-to-action. Blog posts are informational; visitors are most likely looking for information on the subject you’re writing about. If you have a related blog post, point readers in that direction. If you have a whitepaper or download that visitors might find useful and that is relevant, also point them in that direction.

Ending with a question can also help spur more participation by your readers. Ask them: what do you feel is important when optimizing a blog post? See what your audience has to say. Who knows – you might just learn a thing or two or have some good advice from those that comment.
