According to Hitwise, Google accounted for 64% of all searches in the U.S. for the month of August.  While this, initially, might not be very shocking, Google’s dominance did increase almost 4% compared to last year.  So it seems that Google’s popularity & search dominance is only getting stronger and stronger.

While Google keeps on obtaining more and more of the overall U.S. searching share, who is losing theirs?  Yahoo isn’t, sustaining roughly the same percentage of U.S. searching share they had last year (22.9%).  Same with (3.5%).  The answer – MSN’s Live search, with almost a 4% drop in share, resulting in an August search share percentage of 8%.  48 smaller search engines accounted for the rest of the U.S. search market share, which was around 1.7%.

With Google forging ahead & MSN losing steam, can Ask propel themselves to become the third most used search engine?  Methinks they can’t with ad campaigns involving a man singing about searching for chicks with swords.  Well, at least they probably swayed the 14 year-old role-playing male to use their search engine…
